Colton flipped his legs over the side of the bed and grabbed his shorts, putting them on in a hurry. âBro... I can explain.â
Dominic shook his head and put his hand up to stop him. âI just canât even deal with this right now.â He turned and stalked out the door, slamming it on his way out and causing everyone to flinch.
The forced smile on Kerriganâs face was half apologetic, half understanding. âIâll go talk to him.â She backed up toward the same door Dominic had just slammed.
Colton stopped her. âNo. Heâs my brother, and this discussion has been a long time coming. Iâll do it. Will you please stay here with Gabe?â
âI think I should come with you.â Gabe had never looked so guilty and ashamed. Until then, Kerrigan was convinced the two emotions didnât even exist inside of him.
Colton cupped Gabeâs cheek. A blind man would be able to feel the adoration he held for her best friend.
âYouâre sitting this one out, Princess. Because if he even so much as gives you a dirty look...â Coltonâs shoulders heaved with a sigh. âItâs just been me and my brother for as long as I can remember, and I donât want to lose him. Let me handle this. Okay?â
Gabe nodded and accepted the quick kiss Colton offered before he turned and walked out of the room. No sooner had he shut the door than Kerrigan turned on her best friend. Even though there were obvious ripples in the water, she couldnât keep her excitement contained.
âI knew it!â She ran over to her very happy friend, taking his hand in hers before they jumped up and down like a couple of dorm roommates who had just been asked out by the most popular guys on campus.
Gabe stopped abruptly and put his hand to his chest, looking at the door. âDomâs going to kill him, isnât he? Oh, Kerr Bear... weâve got to do something. I just got him. I canât lose him. Weâd better get down there.â
âStop, sweetie.â Kerrigan grabbed his shoulders and forced him to focus on her. âEverything is going to be okay. Weâve just got to let them work this out. Colton is far too important to Dominic to inflict bodily harm on him, let alone kill him. Now, you, on the other hand...â
âMe, what?â
âYou should be worried about what Iâm going to do to you. You lied to me!â She smacked him on the arm.
Gabe gave her a sheepish grin.
âWhen did this happen?â
He sat on the bed and hugged Coltonâs pillow to his chest. With a dignified look, he simply replied, âWhat happens at Panama Hattieâs stays at Panama Hattieâs.â
âOh... you!â She snatched the pillow away and hit him with it, then sat on the bed facing him with her legs crossed. âHe called you Princess! Tell me everything!â
